Multi-turn conversations
Carry relevant context forward while preserving model and branch intent.
Web conversations
The selected branch is a chain of turns. Editing a message starts a new branch from its predecessor; the original remains intact. Regenerate replays the source turn through current permissions and budget checks.
Native API context
Chat sends ordered messages. Responses carries prior output items and matching function results in input. Messages carries prior user/assistant content blocks and tool results. Native API clients own this history; internal session IDs are not stored native response IDs.
Pagination
Durable session history supports bounded pages and an explicit selected head. Load older pages with the returned cursor. A model context window is not a promise that every historical turn is included without bounds.
